Houses at Braunston

As soon as children start their school journey at Braunston Primary School they are given a House to belong to. Our houses are Chandlers (Green), Helmsmen (Yellow), Gongoozlers (Blue) and Lockkeepers (Red) and have been chosen due to the influence and proximity of the canal at Braunston.

Children can collect house tokens through demonstrating our school rule of ‘We Care’. They do this by following our code of conduct: Ready, Respectful, Safe.

Ready to learn

Respectful of everyone

Safe in our behaviour

We evidence these through our values: Relationships, Reconciliation, Responsibility, Respect and Reverence, Resilience and Reflection.

Children can also be awarded house tokens for making positive contributions to society and by working hard to achieve personal goals.

At the start of Year 6, children can choose if they want to lead their house and deliver a House Captain speech to their house. House Captains are voted for using a democratic process.

Each week, during Celebration Assembly, house tokens are celebrated and at the end of each term, the winning house can come to school wearing non- school uniform.

In addition to this, Houses work together in inter house sports competitions, at the end of each term and Sports Day is organised to ensure Houses can complete against each other.

The successes of our House System have led to a greater focus on learning together, teamwork and in building a community which values kindness, care, good relationships and empathy for others as well as providing a competitive environment in which all children are given the opportunity to succeed.
