Swimming

At Braunston Primary School Every Child Makes a Splash!
At our school, learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Thanks to our beautiful, fully supervised outdoor heated swimming pool, all pupils—from Reception to Year 6—enjoy regular swimming sessions as part of the curriculum.

We believe that swimming is a vital life skill, boosting confidence, fitness, and wellbeing. Our trained staff ensure every child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn in the water. Whether they're beginners or confident swimmers, every child gets the opportunity to progress at their own pace.

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2; at Braunston we provide this to both key stages. Pupils should be taught to:
  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
In the Summer term, each and every child, enjoys swimming lessons catered to their ability. With a range of resources from noodles, floats, sinkers and hoops, children thrive, building their water confidence, developing swimming skills  to use strokes effectively and progress to essential lifesaving skills too.

Molly: "It's so much fun swimming in the pool with our friends. We are so lucky to have our own pool!"

Come and discover a school that goes the extra mile—where education is active, joyful, and full of opportunity
